MARSHFIELD, Mass. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced its weekly honors for the week of Sept. 4 and freshman defensive back Jack Gray (Atherton, Calif.) was awarded Rookie of the Week for his performance last Saturday night.
Gray had a hand in three turnovers on Saturday night, two of which led to Gallaudet scores. In the first quarter, Gray tackled the ball carrier at the two-yard line, causing a fumble out of the end zone for a touchback. GU marched 80 yards on 10 plays and ended with a 12-yard touchdown pass to begin the game. Late in the third quarter, Gray intercepted a Shenandoah pass in the red zone and returned it nine yards. Gallaudet scored 11 plays later on an 18-yard touchdown run.
Gray's second forced fumble happened late in the second quarter with the Hornets marching into Gallaudet's red zone. Gray jarred the ball loose from SU running back Mario Wisdom, for a second time in the game, at the Gallaudet 15.
Gray finished with two forced fumbles, one interception seven tackles, and one pass breakup.
Maritime (N.Y.) took three of the four honors for the week. Maritime (N.Y.) senior quarterback Thomas Wright was named ECFC Offensive Player of the Week, Maritime (N.Y.) senior linebacker Kendal Parker was selected as ECFC Defensive Player of the Week and Maritime (N.Y.) senior kicker Matthew Murphy was picked as ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
This is Gallaudet's first ECFC Player of the Week award this season and the first for Gray.
Gallaudet will make its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 9, against Greensboro College (0-1) at 1 p.m.
