BELLEVUE, Wash. - Gallaudet University was named the "Best College Football Team in D.C." by HERO Sports this week as the online college sports news website unveiled its 2017 Best College Football Teams by State, regardless of division.
The online website picked the best college football team by state, regardless of its classification (NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA), and looked at its stats and records from the past five seasons. They created a point system to score each program based off winning percentage, MVP awards, Coach of the Year honors, bowl game appearances, conference championships, national titles and playoff appearances.
Gallaudet won the 2013 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) championship and made the program's first NCAA Division III tournament appearance. The Bison are 20-29 (.408) in the past five years, were ranked in the AFCA Division III Coaches' Poll for the first time in program history, produced its first Gagliardi Trophy finalist, two D3football.com All-Americans, numerous all-conference and ECFC honors.
The Bison are one of four football teams in the District of Columbia including Georgetown University (DI), Howard University (DI) and Catholic University of America (DIII).
