Football home opener canceled against Apprentice School due to impending storm

WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University's football home opener against Apprentice School, from Newport News, Va., scheduled for this Saturday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m. has been canceled due to Hurricane Florence. This game will not be made up this season. 

Gallaudet's next football game will be on the road at Anna Maria College on Saturday, Sept. 29, at noon. This will be the conference opener for both teams.

An emergency declaration (i.e. state of emergency) was issued by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser today as the district prepares for the impending storm. The declaration of public emergency will stay in effect for 15 days. Hurricane Florence remains a dangerous Category 4 hurricane off the coast of the Carolinas and Virginia with an expected landfall of late Thursday into Friday.
