MARSHFIELD, Mass. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced its weekly honors for the week of Sept. 10 and senior linebacker Demontrai Lewis (Trinity, Texas) and junior Damonte Bray (Clinton, Md.) were awarded Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, for their performances last weekend in Greensboro, N.C. against Greensboro College.
Lewis led the Bison defense with 10 tackles (eight solo) which included four tackles for a loss of 17 yards. He forced one fumble, made one sack for a loss of eight yards and blocked a 27-yard field goal attempt in the fourth quarter.
Bray was a star on special teams for GU last Saturday. He blocked a Greensboro punt in the first quarter as freshman Eric Gregory (Metairie, La.) scooped up the loose ball at the 3 and ran it into the end zone for a touchdown at the 7:34 mark as GU led 14-0. Bray had a hand in Gallaudet's next score as well. Greensboro continued the drive but fumbled on fourth down as Bray scooped up the ball and ran 18 yards for a touchdown. The Bison led 21-0 with 5:53 left in the opening quarter.
Maritime (N.Y.) senior quarterback Thomas Wright was named ECFC Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week while Husson University freshman running back Solomon Hassen was selected as ECFC Rookie of the Week.
This is Gallaudet's second and third ECFC Player of the Week award this season and the first for Lewis and Bray in their careers.
