MARSHFIELD, Mass. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced its weekly honors for the week of Oct. 1 and senior linebacker Demontrai Lewis (Trinity, Texas) and freshman slot Cassmeir Hutchinson (Chesapeake, Va.) were awarded Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for their performances last weekend in Paxton, Mass., against Anna Maria College.
Lewis led the Gallaudet defense en route to a 29-9 road win over Anna Maria last Saturday in the ECFC opener. The senior linebacker led the team with seven tackles (five solo) with two of those tackles ending up in a loss of 28 yards. He also forced a fumble when he sacked the AMC quarterback for a loss of 14 yards in the second quarter.
Hutchinson had a career day as he ran for 151 yards on 10 carries (15.1 yards per rush) as he helped to lead Gallaudet to a 20-point victory over Anna Maria on the road. He scored a touchdown on an 80-yard run, his longest of his young career. For the season, he has 290 rushing yards on 19 carries; averaging 15.3 yards per carry and two scores.
Dean College freshman quarterback Terrell Watts was named ECFC Offensive Player of the Week while Castleton University junior running back Moe Harris was selected as ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
This is Gallaudet's fourth and fifth ECFC Player of the Week awards this season and the second for Lewis and first for Hutchinson in their careers.
