MARSHFIELD, Mass. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced its weekly honors for the week of Sept. 30 and Gallaudet University was selected for three Player of the Week honors. Junior quarterback Timel Benton (Columbia, S.C.) was named Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore Cassmeir Hutchinson (Chesapeake, Va.) was selected as Special Teams Player of the Week and freshman Stefan Anderson (New Market, Md.) brought home Rookie of the Year honors.
Benton threw for a career-high three touchdown passes last Saturday at home in a heart-breaking 27-25 loss to Greensboro College. Benton had touchdown passes of 17-, 15- and 22-yards in the game. He completed 6 of 10 passes for 129 yards with a long pass of 55 yards. His passing efficiency was 267.4.
Hutchinson led Gallaudet's kick return game last week as he averaged 42.5 yards per return. He had a long return of 49 yards in the fourth quarter that helped to set up Gallaudet's fourth touchdown of the game. Hutchinson fielded the kickoff and broke free down the near sideline before he was pushed out of bounds. The Bison scored on that drive to trim the Pride lead to two points, 27-25. Hutchinson finished the day with 85 return yards and 221 all-purpose yards (116 rushing yards) and caught one touchdown pass.
Anderson made a career-best nine tackles, tied for the team lead, last Saturday against Greensboro College. Four of his nine tackles were solos.
Castleton University's Chris Rice was named ECFC Defensive Player of the Week.
This is Gallaudet's first ECFC Player of the Week awards this season. This is Benton's third ECFC Player of the Week award in his career, Hutchinson's second and Anderson's first.
Gallaudet (0-3) will have a week off before it jumps into conference play on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Castleton University (0-4) at noon.
