GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards and for the first time this season a member of the Gallaudet University men's basketball program was recognized as junior forward Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) was named the recipient for the week of December 20.
Seeber scored a career best 25 points in a 90-86 road NEAC win against Penn St.-Berks on Sunday. Seeber shot 80 percent from the field and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line and 3-for-3 from 3-point range. Seeber added 10 assists for the second straight game this season to record his second double-double of the season for the Bison (7-3, 4-1 NEAC). This is the first season for the Bison in the NEAC after a 20-year stint in the Capital Athletic Conference.
Gallaudet now has 12 NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week awards for this season. All-American Easter Faafiti (Pittsburg, Calif.) from GU was selected as the women's basketball recipient this week to give the Buff and Blue the clean sweep.
In the latest conference standings, Seeber ranks first in assists (5.6 per game), free throw percentage (.887) and is fifth in scoring (17.7 points per game) and blocks (1.30 per game).
The Bison are now off until the New Year when they open the second half of the schedule on the road against defending conference champion SUNYIT (3-7, 2-2) on Saturday, January 8, for a 3 p.m. conference game.
