ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season with a 79-62 setback against Lebanon Valley College on Saturday night in the Rinso Marquette Tournament.
The Bison (1-1) will face Rowan University in tomorrow's (Sunday, Nov. 20) consolation game on the LVC campus. Rowan lost 90-53 to Wesley College in the other game on Saturday.
Gallaudet only trailed by one, 33-32, when the teams went into halftime after playing a spirited first half. The Bison jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead to start the game before the Dutchmen (1-1) went on a 17-0 to take the lead.
In the second half, the Dutchmen opened up with a 31-9 run over the first 11 minutes as LVC led 64-41 with 9:02 left in regulation. The 23-point lead was the largest of the game. The Dutchmen scored 26 points off 19 Gallaudet turnovers and dominated the paint outscoring the Bison 50-18. Lebanon Valley also held a 51-38 edge on rebounds.
Senior forward Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) scored 11 points and passed out two assists to go with two rebounds and two steals. Freshman guard Jaris Alleyne (Waldorf, Md.) came off the bench to net 11 points and brought down eight rebounds in 21 minutes of action. Senior guard Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) was the third Bison with double figures as he scored 10. Junior forward Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) was limited to eight points and six rebounds. The Bison bench outscored the Dutchmen's bench 33-15.
LVC was led by Danny Brooks' game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds while Jordan Stewart scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Senior guard Joe Meehan, a preseason All-American second team selection, was held to just 10 points against the Bison.
