FREDERICK, Md. – The two Bison big men scored in double figures Thursday night bit it was not enough as the Gallaudet University men's basketball team fell to non-conference opponent Hood College, 83-56.
Gallaudet (0-3) was unable to stop a tough Hood (2-1) offense as the Blazers held a lead for the entire game. The Bison fought hard to stay in the game, coming back from a deficit to tie the game at 11 with 12:16 remaining in the first half. The Hood answered with a 17-0 run, increasing the score 28-11. GU was unable to recover, as the Blazers were able to go up by as much as 30 points in the game.
Freshman forward Joshua McGriff (Somerset, N.J.) continued his strong start as a Bison as he scored a team-high 16 points on an impressive 8-for-9 shooting performance. He also added five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal. In his first game of the year, senior forward Orion Palmer (Riverside, Calif.) posted 10 points and eight rebounds. Junior guards Ben Coleman (St. Paris, Ohio) and Anton Jackson (Detroit, Mich.) both pitched in with nine points apiece.
Hood was led by Cameron Cook who led all scorers as he put up 25 points in addition to six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Bison begin their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) schedule next week as they host Penn St.-Berks (0-2, 0-0 NEAC) in Gallaudet's home opener on Monday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m.
