Bison have a Major problem with Penn St.-Berks

READING, Pa. – The 3-point shots were not there Tuesday evening for Gallaudet University as the men's basketball team lost, 72-62, to Penn St.-Berks in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road contest.

Gallaudet (6-13, 5-7 NEAC) has lost three straight games and is 1-8 in away games this season. The Bison trailed the entire game against Penn St.-Berks (4-13, 4-7 NEAC) as GU only made 1 of 13 shots from 3-point range in the first half. The Bison were still in the game at intermission, only down 26-20.

The Bison still trailed by single digits early in the second half but never threaten the Nittany Lions, who broke open the game down the stretch.

Freshman forward Joshua McGriff (Somerset, N.J.) made his first start in a NEAC game and scored a season-high 24 points in 26 minutes of action. McGriff made 10 of 15 (.667) shots from the field, went 4-for-9 from the free throw line, grabbed nine rebounds, made two blocks and passed out two assists. Junior guard Ben Coleman (St. Paris, Ohio) made five 3-pointers on 18 shots as he netted 17 points and five assists. Fellow junior guard Anton Jackson (Detroit, Mich.) was the third Bison in double figures with 12 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Trey Gordon (Talladega, Ala.) chipped in six points and seven rebounds in the loss.

Penn St.-Berks guard Darren Major led all scorers with 35 points as he made 16 of 26 (.615) shots from the field.

GU returns home for a NEAC doubleheader weekend as the Bison welcome SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. and SUNYIT on Sunday, Feb. 9, at noon.
