WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University won its fourth straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men's basketball game on Wednesday night as the Bison defeated visiting Penn St.-Abington, 71-60.
Gallaudet (11-5, 7-3 NEAC) shot 47.2 percent (25 of 53) from the field and made nine three-pointers in the 11-point win before 232 in the Field House. Three different Bison reached double figures led by junior forward Trey Gordon (Talladega, Ala.), who tallied 19 points and five rebounds as he made three three-pointers. Senior guard Ben Coleman (St. Paris, Ohio) continued his hot shooting from three-point range as he made 5 of 9 shots to record 15 points. Sophomore guard Raymond Nelson (Riverside, Calif.) scored 12 points, passed out seven assists, grabbed four rebounds, one block and a steal. Sophomore forward Joshua McGriff (Somerset, N.J.) came off the bench to grab a game-high 12 rebounds and three blocks in 18 minutes of action. Junior guard Todd Bonheyo (Frederick, Md.) had seven assists, six steals and six rebounds in the win.
Penn St.-Abington (6-10, 5-4 NEAC) was paced by Max Alton's 16 points while Dequan Jackson and Devin Jones scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, and grabbed seven rebounds each in the loss.
The Bison led 37-23 at halftime as GU made five three-pointers in the first 20 minutes of play. GU held a 46-37 edge in rebounds as the Bison bench contributed 19 points in the game.
Gallaudet will clash with NEAC South Division first-place leader Lancaster Bible College (14-1, 8-0 NEAC) on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 3 p.m. The Bison are in second place in the NEAC South Division.
