WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team dominated the court over non-conference foe Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday in a 74-52 win at the Field House.
Gallaudet broke open the game in the second half after the Bison went into halftime up 34-23. After a Gryphons' basket to start the final 20 minutes of the game, GU went on a 23-5 run that ended with an impressive one-handed dunk by sophomore Raymond Nelson (Riverside, Calif.). Nelson's dunk put an exclamation point on the GU run as the Bison led 59-30 with 11 minutes left in regulation.
The Bison shot 56.9 percent from the field (29 of 51) and scored 46 of their 74 points down low (62.1 percent) while the Gryphons struggled to make 30 percent of their shots from the field and scored only 28 points in the paint.
Sophomore Joshua McGriff (Somerset, N.J.) led the Bison with 17 points, making 8 of 9 shots, grabbed seven rebounds, made two blocks and a steal. Junior Trey Gordon (Talladega, Ala.) recorded another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Ben Coleman (St. Paris, Ohio) sunk three three-point shots to added nine points for the Bison and pulled down seven defensive rebounds. Nelson and freshman Andy Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) each added eight points while Cruz brought down seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win.
Sarah Lawrence (1-4) was led by Malin Segal's 11 points while Graham Gilleran and Stevan Radosavljevic added nine points each in the loss. Gilleran added five rebounds, three steals and three assists.
The Bison will be off until the men's and women's teams host the GU Holiday Tournament on Dec. 5-6. Play for the Gallaudet men's team will begin on Friday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. against Maryland Bible College.
