Bison fend off Phoenix to earn eighth win of season

WASHINGTON – It was a much needed home victory for the Gallaudet University men's basketball team on Wednesday night as the Bison defeated Wilson College, 65-60, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game before 287 at the Field House.

The win is the first at home in four contests this month and gives the Bison confidence heading into this weekend's games in New York before a key stretch of the season, five conference home games.

Senior forward Trey Gordon (Talladega, Ala.) scored 14 of his game-high 27 points in the second half as he helped to ice the game with a three-pointer late in the second half. Gordon recorded his fourth double-double with 12 rebounds as he made 10 of 25 shots from the field. Freshman forward Andy Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) scored a career-high 16 points and seven rebounds while sophomore guard Raymond Nelson (Riverside, Calif.) added 10 points, six rebounds and two assists. Senior guard Ben Coleman (St. Paris, Ohio) recorded nine points, all on three-pointers, and passed out two assists. Junior guard Todd Bonheyo (Frederick, Md.) had a game-high seven assists and five steals.

Gallaudet (8-5, 4-3 NEAC South Division) controlled the post as it outscored Wilson (3-8, 2-5 NEAC South) by 18 points, 36-18. The Bison held a 36-31 edge in rebounds and 19-6 advantage on points off turnovers. GU led 33-29 at the half.

The Phoenix had four players in double figures led by Marqwon Wynn and Rasul Jackson who scored 17 and 15 points, respectively. Ben Holl added 11 points and Mylan Ward had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
