GU clipped by Griffins on the road, 96-81

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - The Gallaudet University men's basketball team fell to Gwynedd Mercy University here Saturday in a 96-81 non-conference loss in The Griffin Complex.

Gallaudet (1-8) used a flurry of 3-pointers to tie the game at 44-44 at the 18:24 mark in the second half after the Bison trailed 42-35 at halftime. 

Gwynedd Mercy (5-3) used a 23-4 run to pull away from the Bison. The Griffins led 67-48 with 12 minutes left in regulation. 

GU got the lead down to eight points, on several occasions, in the final minutes but could never gain the advantage on the road.

Junior guard Noah Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) led the Bison with 21 points, that included five 3-pointers to go with three rebounds, two assists and one block. Freshman guard Corey Smith (Miami, Fla.) added 12 points and three steals.

Griffin guard Clayton Wolfe scored 19 of his career-high 32 points in the second half as he made 14 of 15 shots from the free throw line. He added seven rebounds, five assists and two steals in the win.

Gallaudet will head south to Florida next weekend to participate in the Mauro Panaggio Tournament. GU will go up against The College at Brockport (5-3) at 2 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Fla.
