Gallaudet drops Mauro Panaggio Invitational consolation game to Nazareth

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Gallaudet University men's basketball team lost 73-56 to Nazareth College in the Mauro Panaggio Invitational consolation game at DME Sports Academy.

Gallaudet (1-10) was paced by junior center Steve Valencia-Biskupiak (Riverside, Calif.), who scored a season-best 22 points as he made 10 of 15 shots from the field, including one 3-pointer. He added seven rebounds, two blocks, two steals and one assist. For his efforts he was named to the all-tournament team.

Nazareth (5-3) guard Tyler Stenglein led the Golden Flyers with 15 points while forward Jake Burgio added 14 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Washington and Lee University (7-3) won Monday's championship game with a 75-66 win over The College at Brockport (6-4). The Generals senior forward Roy McMillan was named the tournament's MVP as he scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Senior Jamal Garner (Jacksonville, Ill.) grabbed more than half of his game-high 12 rebounds in the first half and scored six points as the Bison trailed 45-30 at the break.

In the second half, the two teams were fairly even as Nazareth outscored GU by two, 28-26.

  • Gallaudet held a 43-32 edge in rebounds

Gallaudet is now off until the New Year when the Bison will jump back into conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 6 p.m. on the road at the College of Saint Elizabeth.
