WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Gallaudet University men's soccer team lost its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener, 3-1, against Penn College here Friday afternoon on the road.
Freshman Brian Espanto (San Antonio, Texas) scored his second career goal in the 40th minute to cut the Penn College lead to one, 2-1. The Wildcats (3-5, 1-1 NEAC) added a third goal right before halftime as they led 3-1 at the break over Gallaudet (0-2-1, 0-1 NEAC).
Penn College got on the scoreboard in the 18th minute when Austin Dowrick assisted Christopher Rutledge's header into the back of the net. Seven minutes later, Gerry Lua scored an unassisted goal as the Wildcats won 2-0.
- Espanto and junior Conrad Baer (Fremont, Calif.) led the team with two shots each
- Espanto and sophomore Cody Zimmer (Winnipeg, Manitoba) both had one shot on goal
- Senior Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md.) made one save
- The Wildcats outshot the Bison 13-5
Gallaudet returns home to host Washington Adventist University on Sunday, Sept. 20, at Hotchkiss Field under the lights at 7 p.m.
