WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's soccer defense battled with North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Penn St.-Abington on Saturday evening at Hotchkiss Field. The Bison held their own until a quick lapse allowed the visiting Nittany Lions to head home the game-winner in the 78th minute. Penn St.-Abington (4-2, 2-0 NEAC) escaped with the win as Gallaudet (1-3-2, 0-2 NEAC) took two shots in the waning minutes.
Nittany Lion defender Dimitri Bourlako headed home the eventual game-winner past Bison goalie Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md.) at the 77:21 mark off an assist from Andrew Costa. Setzer finished the game with seven saves.
Junior Conrad Baer (Fremont, Calif.) had a nice shot at the 89:38 mark that Nittany Lion goalie Jose Arroyo (two saves) turned away to preserve the shutout.
- GU's defense kept Penn St.-Abington's leading scorer Richard Domico (four goals, two assists) off the scoreboard as he led the Nittany Lions with five shots (four on goal)
- Three different Bison had a shot in the game including Conrad Baer, his brother Connor Baer (Fremont, Calif.) and sophomore Cody Zimmer (Winnipeg, Manitoba)
- The Nittany Lions held a 13-3 edge in shots and took seven corner kicks
- Both teams were whistled for 13 fouls and five combined yellow cards were issued in the physical contest
The Bison will turn around and host Bryn Athyn College (4-4, 0-2 NEAC) in a conference game tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 27) at 5 p.m. at Hotchkiss Field.
