FREDERICK, Md. - The Gallaudet University men's soccer team struggled to find its offense here Wednesday as they fell to Hood College, 5-1, before 142 spectators in a non-conference match.
The Blazers (10-4) set the tone early in the first half when Anthony Maglino blasted a shot off the post and into back of the net in the first minute of the game. Hood continued to control the game for the remainder of the first half, adding two more goals, and holding the Bison (5-11-1) to no shots on goal.
Facing a 3-0 deficit at the start of the second half, the Bison attempted to battle back when redshirt freshman midfielder Brian Espanto (San Antonio, Texas) set up a breakaway for freshman forward Roel Gutierrez (Austin, Texas), who was able to fire a shot past Blazers goalie Christian Reyes in the 47th minute. The goal was Gutierriez's 10th goal of the season.
The Blazers continued to control the game for the remainder of the afternoon and refused to let GU build momentum off of their early second half goal, holding the Bison to just one shot on goal for the remainder of the game.
Hood added two more goals in the 69th and 73rd minute.
- Gutierrez led the team with three shots
- Freshman goalie Noah Means-Simonsen (Louisville, Ky.) made eight saves
- The Bison were held to just six shots, two shots on goal
- Senior midfielder Conrad Baer (Fremont Calif.) took one shot on goal
