Angel named NEAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for Oct. 22 and Gallaudet University freshman goalie Shane Angel (Mechanicsville, Md.) was named Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for his performance last week for the Bison. 

Angel led GU to a 2-1 record last week and posted a pair of shutouts. Last weekend, Angel made 10 saves in an overtime 2-1 loss at Morrisville State and added five saves in a win at Cazenovia. The Bison's rookie goalkeeper also had six saves in a win against Valley Forge. Angel had 21 saves and a 0.66 goals-against average on the week.

Keuka College junior midfielder Abdikarim Maalo was selected as the NEAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week with eight points in two conference matches.

This is Gallaudet's second NEAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week honor this season. This is the first NEAC weekly honor for Angel in his career.

Gallaudet (6-9, 4-6 NEAC) will close out the NEAC regular-season schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 24, on the road against Lancaster Bible College (9-6-1, 8-2 NEAC) at 7:15 p.m.
