Bison left seeing red in season debut

DANVILLE, Ky. - After a 100-minute lightning delay, Gallaudet University's men's soccer season got underway in the Bluegrass state on Friday evening. The Bison went up against Centre College, one of the top teams in the Southern Athletic Association, and lost 5-0 at Andrew P. Amend Field.

Freshman forward Chad Johnson (Gardena, Calif.) led the Bison (0-1) with four shots, two shots on goal, in his buff and blue debut. Senior forward Sean Huber (Orange, Calif.) had GU's other shot on goal in the game.

Freshman goalie Shane Angel (Mechanicsville, Md.) made 10 saves in his debut in between the pipes for the Bison.

Centre (1-0) was led by Dylan Barth, who scored two first-half goals, as the Colonels led 3-0 at halftime. In the second half, Centre scored twice in the 65th and 82nd minutes.


  • Gallaudet was outshot 36-5 in the game and 21-0 in the second half
  • The Colonels held a 11-5 edge in corner kicks
  • The Bison got hit with 12 cards (four red) in the game
  • GU ended the game with seven players on the field

GU remains in Kentucky through the weekend and will face Spalding University on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 1 p.m. in Louisville, Ky.
