Bison fall back into middle of NEAC pack with loss to Wolves

Gallaudet forward Sean Huber gets tripped by a Keuka defender during a day soccer game.

WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University had a chance to make a move up the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men's soccer standings here Sunday afternoon as the Bison hosted an equally-matched Keuka College squad.

The two teams played even throughout in a physical and tactical match. Keuka escaped with an 1-0 victory after the Wolves stormed the Bison goal in the 53rd minute for the lone mark of the game.

Gallaudet (4-5, 3-3 NEAC) had a handful of attempts to score in the match but the Bison were turned away by Keuka goalie Ryan Mavretish on the two shots that reached the goal.

Keuka (6-5, 4-2 NEAC) kept the Bison defense on their heels as the Wolves tallied 25 shots with 13 shots on goal. GU freshman goalie Shane Angel (Mechanicsville, Md.) stopped a career-high 12 shots in the loss.

The two teams were scoreless in the first half.

  • Sophomore defender Kevin Fitzpatrick (Hopatcong, N.J.) led the Bison with two shots
  • GU held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks

Gallaudet will hit the road and jump out of conference on Wednesday, Oct. 3, and face Eastern Mennonite University (4-5-1) at 7 p.m.
