KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Chad Johnson (Gardena, Calif.) scored the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of the first overtime to stun Keuka College, 1-0, here Saturday in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.
Gallaudet (1-10-1, 1-5 NEAC) and Keuka (3-8-1, 2-4 NEAC) played to a scoreless tie through the first 90 minutes of play to force the extra period. GU recorded two shots in the first half but were held to no shots in the second half. The Wolves tallied eight shots in the first half, five in the second half and none in overtime.
In overtime, Johnson was fouled on top of the box as the Bison were rewarded a free kick. Senior defender Elan Markel (University Park, Md.) went to take the kick but faked out the Keuka defense, as he stepped over the ball, as Johnson came in to blast home the game-winner in the left upper 90 of the Keuka goal at the 96:13 mark. The goal set-off a wild celebration at midfield as Johnson was mobbed by his teammates and the Bison bench.
This is Gallaudet's first win since Oct. 21, 2018, when the Bison defeated Cazenovia, 2-0, on the road.
Sophomore goalie Shane Angel (Mechanicsville, Md.) made three saves in net and earns his fifth shutout in his career.
- Johnson has three game-winning goals in his career
- Keuka held an 11-4 edge in corner kicks
- Three different Bison had shots in the game
- The Wolves had two players with four shots each
- The two teams combined for 33 fouls and two yellow cards
Gallaudet stays in New York and will make the trip over to Wells College (4-9, 1-5 NEAC) tomorrow (Sunday, Oct. 13) for a conference game at noon.
