WASHINGTON, D.C. – There will be an informative meeting for all Gallaudet University students who are interested in trying out for the 2012-13 Bison diving team, part of the men’s and women’s swimming program, on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Field House pool.
Are you a good all-around athlete, with perhaps gymnastics, tumbling, dance, trampoline or diving experience? Are you agile with good special awareness? Did you watch the 2012 Summer Olympics diving events and think that might be something you would like to try? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may have a future in the Gallaudet diving program.
Gallaudet competes in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) and have won back-to-back men’s titles and won one women’s title in the past two seasons. One area the Bison have earned key points have come from diving on the 1-meter springboard. So you have the chance to make a big impact as the Bison gear up for another championship run. You would also compete in the different intercollegiate dual meets throughout the season along with practices and team meetings. The team needs men’s and women’s divers to join and develop to help the Bison this season and into the future.
To give you every chance for success, the Gallaudet athletics is upgrading the current diving board to the identical springboard model required for the Olympics. Jesse Fonner, who is deaf, is the new Diving Coach and he brings with him NCAA Division I diving experience while at Stanford University. He has been coaching experienced and beginning divers since 1997.
Interested? Come to the Kickoff meeting to find out what the program is all about.
