Eight Bison earn All-NEAC honors on Men's Swimming and Diving Teams

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) released its 2016 All-Conference Swimming and Diving teams and Gallaudet University earned 10 spots, which included five relay events, on one men's team. Eight different Bison men's swimmers earned all-conference honors.

A swimmer or diver needs to place first, second, or third in an event at the NEAC championships to earn all-conference status. The 2016 swimming and diving championships were held Feb. 12-14 and hosted by Cazenovia College. Gallaudet finished third at this year's championships.

Gallaudet had five relay teams that earned All-NEAC third team honors as the relay team of freshman Gideon Firl (Frederick, Md.), junior David Bruno (Patchogue, N.Y.), freshman Chang Hwang (Seattle, Wash.) and junior Dary Berke (Fremont, Calif.) made up the 200-yard freestyle relay. Berke, Hwang, junior Xuan Lin (Mount Prospect, Ill.) and Firl swam in both the 200 and 400-yard medley relays. Bruno, freshman Kenneth Peters (Indianapolis, Ind.), senior Roberto Chavez (Jarales, N.M.) and sophomore Tommy Wall (Toronto, Ontario) swam in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Firl, Lin, Hwang and Berke completed the 400-yard freestyle relay team.

In the individual events, Firl earned his fifth All-NEAC third team honors in the 100-yard individual medley event. Bruno added two more All-NEAC third team honors in the 200 and 400-yard individual medley events. Lin finished third in the 100-yard butterfly event and Peters was also third in the 100-yard backstroke event.

Wells College Express won its third NEAC championship this year after edging out the defending champion SUNY Cobleskill on the third and final day. Cazenovia Wildcats sophomore Collin Stewart was voted by the conference coaches as the NEAC Swimmer of the Year after winning four events during the three-day championship. SUNY Cobleskill freshman Sam Datri claimed NEAC Rookie of the Year award while the Express head coach Patricia George and Wildcat head coach Bill Houser shared the NEAC Coach of the Year honors.
