WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University men's swimming and diving won its second meet of the season, here Saturday, on Senior Day at the Field House pool as the Bison won 88-77 over Stevenson University. Roberto Chavez (Jarales, N.M.) is the lone senior on the men's team and was honored for his dedication to the team this season.
Gallaudet's 200-yard medley relay team of junior Dary Berke (Fremont, Calif.), freshman Kenneth Peters (Indianapolis, Ind.), junior David Bruno (Patchogue, N.Y.), and Chavez took first place with a time of 2:40.00.
The Bison (2-10) took first place in two other events, with Berke winning the 100 backstroke (37.87) and freshman Gideon Firl (Frederick, Md.) winning the 100 breaststroke (1:13.76) and taking second in the 50 freestyle (25.02) and 100 freestyle (57.05). Bruno also earned two second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:48.80) and 500 freestyle (7:47.23). Freshman Chang Hwang (Seattle, Wash.) took second in the 1,000 freestyle (15:14.07) and 100 breaststroke (1:26.71) while junior Xuan Lin (Mount Prospect, Ill.) took second in the 200 IM (3:05.34) and 100 butterfly (1:25.87).
Stevenson (1-9) won eight of the 11 events, but the Bison team was able to pull ahead with their three first-place finishes, 10 second-place finishes, and six third-place finishes.

- Gallaudet's other win this season came on Oct. 30 against Cazenovia

Gallaudet will begin tapering over the next two weeks to prepare for the North Eastern Athletic Conference championships being held in Cazenovia, N.Y., on Feb. 12-14.
