WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's swimming and diving team under the direction of Head Coach Larry Curran enters the 2016-17 season ranked third in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).
In 2016, the men's swimming and diving team placed third at the NEAC championships hosted by Cazenovia College. With several new faces, the team will approach the 2016-17 season the same way they have approached seasons in the past, developing discipline, confidence, conditioning and technique in hopes that members of the team will establish and achieve personal goals and excel in the conference.
With limited losses in the offseason and the addition of the several new swimmers, who have been training year round, things are looking positive for the team in the 2016-17 season.
NEAC Record: 0-3
NEAC Championship: 3rd place
Awards: Eight Bison earned NEAC honors at the 2016 NEAC championship
David Bruno (Patchogue, N.Y.), Sr.
Over the course of his college career, Bruno has consistently improved in the pool. Bruno returns for his senior season and is expected to continue to improve. His activism in the community make him a natural leader and role model for young members of the team. He will serve as team captain this season.
Xuan Lin (Mount Prospect, Ill.), Sr.
Lin returns for his senior season and is expected to excel in the breaststroke.
Chris Martinez (El Paso, Texas), Fr.
Martinez enters his first year as a freshman and is expected to make an immediate impact on the team. He was a member of the 2015 World Deaf Championship team and has been training year round which makes him a threat in any event.
Jonathan Tikhonoff (Folsom, Calif.), Jr.
The junior transfer from Sierra College was a member of the 2005 U.S. Deaflympic team which competed in Melbourne, Australia. He is currently making strides as he gets back in shape and has the ability to swim in any event that he is selected for.
Nickolas Roman (Lubbock, Texas), Fr.
Roman enters his freshman year after training year round. He will be one of the Bison's go to swimmers to compete in backstroke and freestyle events.
Setthawut Snow, Fr.
Snow joins the team primarily as a sprinter. He is expected to compete in short distance backstroke and freestyle events.
"We are looking for steady improvement in technique and performance as the athletes learn how to compete. Daily incremental gain is the only way to get you to compete at your potential." - Larry Curran, Gallaudet University men's and women's swimming and diving head coach
