Bison begin conference play with a win over Wells, 138-99

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Gallaudet University men's swimming and diving program began North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play here Saturday afternoon with a 138-99 win over Wells College on the campus of Cedar Crest College.

Gallaudet's trio of senior Jonathan Tikhonoff (Folsom, Calif.), sophomore Chris Martinez (El Paso, Texas) and freshman Benjamin Sealts (Ottawa, Ohio) combined to win nine individual events and they were part of the first-place 200-yard medley relay team. They joined sophomore Lukas Morkevicius (Seattle, Wash.) to win the relay in 1:54.57.

Tikhonoff was first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.99), 100-yard IM (58.88) and 100-yard butterfly where he set a new personal best time of 55.33 seconds.

Martinez rolled in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a new personal best time of 10:57.42 as the second-place swimmer from Wells was over two minutes behind. Martinez took first-place in the 50-yard breaststroke (31.37 seconds) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.41).

Sealts was first in the 100-yard freestyle (51.46), which was one second off the school record, the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.25) and 500-yard freestyle (5:01.25).

Junior Mackenzie Shannon (Winnetka, Ill.) set a new personal record in the 50-yard butterfly as he won in 32.59 seconds.
