Bison in second after first day of 2019 NEAC championships

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University men's swimming and diving program began the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships hosted by Cazenovia College here Friday at the Schneeweiss Athletic Complex and after the first day of competition the Bison are in second place.

Gallaudet only trails first-place Wells College by 15 points, 115-100, after six events. SUNY Cobleskill is third with 97 points followed by the host Wildcats in fourth (20).

Sophomore Ben Sealts (Ottawa, Ohio) won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:08.21 as he won by over 29 seconds.

Freshman Nick Hohrman (Fergus Falls, Minn.) finished third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.48 seconds.

GU's 400-yard medley relay team of Hohrman, Xiangming Liu (Dandong, China), Sealts and Abe Polanco (Devine, Texas) took second place with a time of 5:19.44.

The Bison 200-yard freestyle relay of Sealts, Hohrman, Liu and Polanco finished third overall (2:08.23).


  • Liu was fourth in the 200-yard IM (4:03.34)
  • Polanco took fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (7:57.42)
  • There was no men's entries for 1-meter diving


Gallaudet returns to the Schneeweiss Athletic Complex tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 16) for Day 2 of the 2019 NEAC championships. Preliminaries will start at 10 a.m. and the finals will be held at 6 p.m. The events on display include the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and the 800 relay.
