GU men's swimming wraps up regular-season schedule at home

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's swimming and diving program was outnumbered here Saturday as a deep and fast Elizabethtown College squad swam away with a 209-35 dual meet win in the Field House pool.

Sophomore Ben Sealts (Ottawa, Ohio) won GU's only event on the day when he touched the wall first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.38. Sealts finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (57.17) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.16), as he was edged out by Guillaume Gouronc (1:04.34) by less than a second.

Sophomore Rett Jala (McAllen, Texas) posted personal best times in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events as he posted times of 1:20.57 and 3:04.19, respectively. He placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke and fifth in the 200-yard backstroke. He was fourth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 3:15.17.


  • Sophomore Abe Polanco (Devine, Texas) was third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (17:13.06)
  • Freshman Nick Hohrman (Fergus Falls, Minn.) was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (29.01), 100-yard freestyle (1:08.75), 200-yard freestyle (2:28.15)
  • Sophomore Xiangming Liu (Dandong, China) was fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:57.87) and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:50.29)
  • GU's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sealts, Hohrman, Polanco and Jala was fourth (2:15.54)
  • The Bison hosted a program record seven dual meets this season

This concludes Gallaudet's regular-season schedule. The Bison (2-6) will next appear at the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships on Feb. 15-17 in Cazenovia, N.Y.
