Bison End Season with Record Breaking Performances

Bison End Season with Record Breaking Performances

Gallaudet Men's and Women's Track and Field completed its 2009 outdoor season at the Mason-Dixon Championships held in Frostburg, Maryland this past weekend.  Sending more participants to this meet in numerous years, the young Bison finished with performances for the record books.  Senior Anthony Baskin took 7th in the 110m Hurdles with a personal best time of 16.24.  He was nearly edged by Freshman Brady Painter, who also ran a personal best with a time of 16.23.  Painter's performance gave the Bison their only points of the highly competitive meet.

Freshman Erin Phillips scored personal bests in both the long jump and triple jump over the weekend.  Her long jump of 4.65m (15-03.25) placed her in 8th place for the event.  In the triple jump competition, Phillips took 7th place with a jump of 9.96m (32-08.25).  With that leap, she broke the Gallaudet school record originally set back in 1992 by Marvice Pack.

The Bison gained much needed experience for a number of the new faces on the team this year.  For the three departing seniors, Anthony Baskin, Kari Olney, and Matthew Schindel, their commitment and effort through the years will help to set a foundation for future Bison to build upon.
