Flowers wins the triple jump for a third time as Bison finish in 7th place

YORK, Pa. – Sophomore jumper Darius Flowers (Birmingham, Ala.) continued his tremendous start to the 2011 men’s track and field season as Gallaudet University participated in its third meet of the season Saturday. The Bison placed seventh out of 10 teams in the Green and White Invitational hosted by York (Pa.) College in York, Pa.

Flowers won the triple jump for a third time this season as he cleared 13.91 meters to give the Bison 10 of their 22 total team points. Justin Everett of Hood College was second with a jump of 12.43 meters in the triple jump. Flowers also helped to secure six more team points as a member of the 4x100 meter relay that placed third with a time of 46.11 seconds, two seconds behind first-place York. Flowers was joined by fellow sophomores Shelby Bean (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Shawn Gordon-Davis and Kelvin Lunn (Cincinnati, Ohio).

Gordon-Davis finished third in the 100-meter dash as he blazed through the competition as he crossed the finish line in 11.70 seconds to pick-up six more team points. Thaddeus Stevens’ runner Lamar McLean won the 100-meter dash in 11.27 seconds. Gordon-Davis just missed on some more team points in the 200-meter dash as he finished seventh with a time of 23.69 seconds.

Gallaudet will travel to Millersville, Pa., next Saturday, April 9, to participate in the Millersville Metrics.
