Bison men's track and field team places 9th at Goucher Classic

TOWSON, Md. – The Gallaudet University men’s track and field team finished ninth overall out of 11 teams on a rainy Saturday at the Goucher College Classic. The Bison collected eight team points as 20 events were held.

Salisbury University won the invitational with 275 team points and was followed by Montgomery College (111), Hagerstown Community College (70), Shenandoah University (68), Stevenson University (58), Hood College (47), Thaddeus Stevens (25), Goucher (24). Gallaudet finished in front of Montgomery unattached (six) and Catholic University of America (three).

Gallaudet had five athletes score in the meet. Sophomore distance runner Alex Close (Tallahassee, Fla.) scored the Bison one point as he finished eighth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:432.82. Freshman distance runner Taylor Clark (Portland, Ore.) scored one point, finishing eighth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:57.43. Senior thrower Shelby Bean (Arvada, Colo.) placed sixth in the hammer throw, scoring three points, with a throw of 31.08 meters. Sophomore thrower Todd Collins (East Islip, N.Y.) scored three points off of two events as he placed seventh in the hammer throw (28.98 meters) and eighth in the shot put (10.27 meters)

The Bison track and field program will next compete on Saturday, April 5, at the Bobcat Invitational in Frostburg, Md., hosted by Frostburg State University.
