NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The two-day New Captains Classic hosted by Christopher Newport University wrapped up Saturday in Pomoco Stadium. The Gallaudet men's track and field program had several standout performers, as there were no team scores kept for this meet.
Senior Vianney Boum-Yamb (Silver Spring, Md.) finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.05 seconds and took sixth in the 200-meter dash (22.06). Freshman Toraneau Varice (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) was 14th in the 100-meter dash (11.53) and 12th in the 200-meter dash (23.03).
Boum-Yamb and Varice were also part of Gallaudet's top relay teams. The Bison 4x100 relay finished third with a time of 43.48 seconds. The duo was joined by freshmen Montray Roberts (Dallas, Texas) and Brandon Capuano (Lexington, N.C.). Gallaudet's 4x400 relay team of Varice, Rashad Gatlin (Chicago, Ill.), Boum-Yamb and freshman Lorenzo Fuller (Miami, Fla.) placed fourth (3:31.55).
Junior Alex Close (Tallahassee, Fla.) finished seventh in the 800-meter run (2:00.67) while sophomore John Isaacson (Clive, Iowa) was eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.04). Isaacson was sixth in the javelin as his best throw was 30.77 meters (100 feet, 11 inches).
Freshamn Dylan Rich (Brockton, Mass.) placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he crossed the finish line in 11:36.37. Fellow freshman Antoine McKinney (Racine, Wis.) was sixth in the triple jump with a top leap of 11.26 meters (36 feet, 11.5 inches).
Gallaudet will next compete at the Paul Kaiser Classic hosted by Shippensburg University next Saturday at 9 a.m.
