WASHINGTON - Members of the Gallaudet University men's and women's track and field team recently came together and turned their attention from running to the community.

On March 12, 11 members of the program and head coach Byron Moore volunteered at the 5th annual Rock 'N' Roll Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K event in Washington, D.C.

The team started their day at 6:30 a.m. in the morning and worked until 12:30 p.m., at the 11th-mile water station on 5th and H Street NE. The Bison student-athletes primarily were responsible ensuring the smooth set-up of multiple pre-event items such as tables, Gatorade coolers, and display of cups before the race started. During the event, the student-athletes cheered and showed encouragement for the participants, holding out cups for the runners as they ran by. Once the race completed the team helped with the post-event clean up efforts.

Several Bison track student-athletes as well as one graduate assistant participated in the race. Graduate Assistant Hayley McLemore ran the half marathon and senior men's cross country runner Neal Matthews completed the marathon.
