Bison men's track and field improves on personal times at Goucher Classic

TOWSON, Md. - The Gallaudet University men's track and field team participated in the Goucher Classic here Saturday hosted by Goucher College. The Bison finished in the middle of the pack in fifth place with 54 team points out of nine teams.

Stevenson University won the meet with 171 points followed by Baldwin Wallace in second place (143), McDaniel College in third (103) and Catholic University of America in fourth (86).

Junior Toraneau Varice (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.55 seconds while teammate Nick Jones (Fulton, Mo.) finished third in 22.88 seconds.

Jones, a freshman, took third in the 400-meter dash as he crossed in 51.42 seconds as he just missed first place (51.33). 

Varice won the preliminaries for the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.21 seconds. In the finals, he placed second as he crossed the finish line in 11.08 seconds. Jones just missed the finals cut as he placed ninth in the preliminaries with a time of 11.38 seconds.

Senior John Isaacson (Clive, Iowa) was seventh in the 800-meter run as he completed the event in 2:07.83.

Freshman Kai Christenberry (Birmingham, Ala.) finished the 400-meter hurdles in third place (1:01.46), just under three seconds of the first-place time (58.87).

GU's 4x100 meter relay team of Christenberry, Varice, freshman Jack Gray (Atherton, Calif.) and Jones finished second in 43.94 seconds. Gallaudet's 4x400 meter relay team of Isaacson, sophomore Lorenzo Fuller (Miami, Fla.), Gray and Jones finished third (3:33.18).


  • Sophomore Gunner Hahn (Stevens Point, Wis.) was fifth in the preliminaries in the 110-meter hurdles (18.75) but he didn't run in the finals
  • Hahn was seventh in the high jump as he cleared 1.73 meters (five feet, eight inches)
  • Gray was eighth in the long jump as he cleared six meters (19 feet, 8.25 inches)
  • Freshman JaQuan Thomas (Midway, Ga.) took ninth in the shot put with a toss of 11.89 meters (39 feet, 0.25 inches)

Gallaudet will head south to Fredericksburg, Va., on Friday, March 31, to participate in the two-day Battleground Relays hosted by University of Mary Washington.
