Bison begin indoor slate at Captains Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Gallaudet University men's track and field program began its 2018 indoor schedule this weekend here at Christopher Newport University as the Bison competed in the Captains Invitational.

Senior Toraneau Varice (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) finished 10th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.22 seconds. Varice was ninth in the 200-meter dash (23.42).

Junior Gunner Hahn (Marshfield, Wis.) placed 10th in the 60-meter hurdles in the preliminaries with a time of 9.11 seconds but he missed the cut, by two spots, to advance to the finals.

Sophomore Kai Christenberry (Birmingham, Ala.) edged Hahn in the 200-meter hurdles with a time of 27.83 seconds while Hahn finished right behind at 27.84.

GU's 4x200 meter relay team was third with a time of 1:37.59 while the 4x400 meter relay was seventh (3:44.27).


  • There were no team scores during the two-day meet
  • Freshman Sean O'Callaghan (San Diego, Calif.) was ninth in the 800-meter run (2:16.32)
  • Sophomore JaQuan Thomas (Midway, Ga.) was 14th in the shot put with a top throw of 10.24 meters (33 feet, 7.25 inches)
  • O'Callaghan took 15th in the 1-mile run (4:53.76)
  • Freshman Chance Hohneke (Lehi, Utah) was 19th in the 1-mile run (4:59.81)
  • Christenberry was 21st in the 400-meter dash (58.15)
  • Junior Chris Webb (Alexandria, Va.) was 36th in the 200-meter dash (26.22)

Gallaudet will travel down to Lynchburg, Va., next weekend to compete in the Liberty Kickoff hosted by Liberty University on Friday-Saturday (Jan. 26-27).
