GU men's track and field finish fifth at Eastern Shore Invite indoor meet

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Gallaudet University men's track and field team finished in fifth place here Saturday at the Eastern Shore Invite/Combined Events Meet hosted by University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in the Hytche Center.

The host Hawks of UMES won the indoor two-day meet with 196 team points followed by Delaware State University (108), Salisbury University (108), Bryant & Stratton College (47), Gallaudet (34) and Wesley College (eight). Gallaudet, Salisbury and Wesley are NCAA Division III programs.

Gallaudet's 4x400 meter relay team finished third with a time of 3:38.07 as Delaware State's top two relay teams took first and second place.

Freshman Eric Gregory (Metairie, La.) advanced to the 60-meter dash final where he placed third overall with a time of 7.18 seconds. He qualified with a third-best time of 7.21 seconds. Senior Toraneau Varice (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) was fifth in the 60-meter dash as he posted a time of 7.25 seconds. He qualified with a fifth-best time of 7.29 seconds. Freshman Omar Harvey (East Orange, N.J.) was 16th (7.63) in the preliminaries followed by freshman Ernest Bristol (North Port, Fla.) in 18th (7.82). 

Sophomore Sean O'Callaghan (San Diego, Calif.) placed seventh in the 800-meter run as he crossed the finish line in 2:11.35. He was GU's top runner in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:45.72 as he finished eighth overall.

Gregory was GU's top finisher in the 200-meter dash as he placed ninth (23.46 seconds) followed by Varice in 10th place (23.57).

Senior Michael Haynes (Olivette, Mo.) was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.82 seconds. Senior Gunner Hahn (Ogema, Wis.) and junior Kai Christenberry (Birmingham, Ala.) just missed the cut for the finals as they placed 8th (9.59) and 10th (9.85), respectively.

Freshman D'Mitri Lofton (Gaithersburg, Md.) finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 5.92 meters, that he achieved on his fourth of six attempts.


  • Freshman Liam Painter (Edgewood, N.M.) was eighth in the 800-meter run (2:23.86) and 11th in the 1-mile run (5:25.72)
  • Bristol was 10th in the long jump (4.45 meters)
  • Senior Montray Roberts (Dallas, Texas) was 12th in the 400-meter run (56.33)
  • Christenberry finished 13th in the 400-meter run (59.24)
  • Junior Dalton Attanasi (Hammonton, N.J.) finished 12th in the 1-mile run (5:59.43)
  • Harvey was 27th in the 200-meter dash (25.95)
  • Freshman Austin Bates (Lacey, Wash.) was 29th in the 200-meter dash (26.67)

GU will conclude its indoor season next Saturday, Feb. 16, in Selinsgrove, Pa., at the SU Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University.
