Bison men's cross country ranked in top half of NEAC preseason coaches poll

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The Gallaudet University men’s cross country team was picked sixth in the first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) preseason coaches poll. The Bison accumulated 74 team points in the 12-team poll.

Gallaudet finished sixth at the NEAC championships it hosted at Kenilworth Park last year in the nation's capital. The Bison return two all-conference runners in junior Alex Close (Tallahassee, Fla.) and sophomore Dylan Rich (Brockton, Mass.).

Two-time defending NEAC champion SUNY Poly is No. 1 as the Wildcats claimed seven first-place votes and 108 points. The Wildcats squeaked past SUNY Cobleskill, who tallied three first-place votes and 107 points. Penn St.-Abington is third with 101 points. Four different teams received first-place votes in the preseason coaches poll.

Cazenovia will host the 2015 NEAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Oct. 31, where all 12 teams will compete for a shot at the conference title.

The Bison begin the season Saturday, Sept. 5, in Salisbury, Md., in the Salisbury University Fall Classic at Winterplace Park at 10:30 a.m.
