GU places 12th at Morrisville State College Mustang Invitational

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University men's cross country team finished 12th overall at the Morrisville State College Mustang Invitational in the season opening race for the Bison. Gallaudet accumulated 360 team points to finished 12th out of 13 teams.

SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry won the meet with 32 points as its top five runners placed in the top 11 spots. Penn College was second with 61 points and SUNY Cobleskill was third with 77 points. Penn College sophomore Josh Velez won the 8K race in 28 minutes, eight seconds.

Gallaudet's first runner to finish the race was junior Taylor Clark (Portland, Ore.) who was 83rd overall with a time of 36:23.4. Clark secured 61 team points for the Bison with his finish. Fellow junior Miguel Barrios (Riverside, Calif.) was 99th (38:03.5) while freshman Fangen Thompson (Hangzhou, China) was 106th (40:21.7). Sophomore David Hernandez (Jacksonville, Texas) was the fourth Bison to cross the finish line in 115th place (46:02) and sophomore Selman Jawed (Oakley, Calif.) was 117th (54:56.6).

This is the first of two trips for the Bison to the Mustang course as Morrisville St. will host the 2017 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships at the end of October.

GU will next run at the Hornet Harrier in Winchester, Va., on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 10:40 a.m.
