Hood pitchers dominate Gallaudet batters

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University softball team could only muster one hit against visiting Hood College on a clear and warm Saturday afternoon as the Bison lost the Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader 21-0 and 10-0 as both games lasted five innings.

Junior catcher Casey McCullough (Oceanside, Calif.) hit a bloop single, which landed behind second base before Blazer shortstop Glenn could get a glove on the ball, in the bottom of the first inning of the first game. McCullough was one of two base runners allowed by Hood freshman pitcher Jordan Wolford (5-5). The hard throwing right-handed pitcher threw a one-hitter as she walked one and struck out eight batters in five innings of work.

Hood freshman pitcher Erin McNally (1-1) threw a no-hitter in the second game as she faced 17 batters and induced 10 ground outs. The Blazers (9-11, 4-4 CAC) committed three errors which led to several Bison base runners.

GU freshmen pitchers Nicole O’Malley (Fredericksburg, Va.) and Alicia Johnson (San Jose, Calif.) suffered the losses in the circle for the Bison. O’Malley pitched a complete game in the first contest as she allowed 21 runs (16 earned) on 18 hits, five walks, four wild pitches and one strikeout. Johnson also pitched a complete game in the second contest as she allowed 10 runs (five earned) on three hits, nine walks, five wild pitches, two hit batters and two strikeouts.

GU will remain in CAC play next week as the Bison hit the road to face Stevenson University on Monday, April 5, for a doubleheader that begins at 3:30 p.m.
