WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University softball team was well on its way to a win Monday afternoon at the GU Softball Complex as the Bison played Trinity Washington University but the outcome came faster then expected. A Trinity player was injured before the start of the second inning and left the Tigers with only eight players. NCAA rules mandate at least nine players play for a game to count. Trinity was forced to forfeit the game, by rules the NCAA forfeit score is 7-0. The planned second game was a no contest and will not count.
Gallaudet, the visiting team for this planned doubleheader, scored 10 runs on nine hits in the top of the first inning. Senior pitcher Montana Murphy (Simi Valley, Calif.) set the Tigers down in order in the bottom half of the inning as she recorded one strikeout. Since the games were forfeited the statistics will not count from this contest.
The Bison will travel to Catholic University of America on Thursday to play a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
