CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Gallaudet University softball team lost 7-0 on the road Wednesday against conference foe Wilson College. The teams were only able to finish one game of the doubleheader due to darkness. The two teams are slated to meet, again, here tomorrow to complete the twinbill at 5 p.m. between the two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) teams.
The Bison (4-22, 1-8 NEAC) held their ground against the Phoenix (10-6, 8-1 NEAC) for the first two innings, until Wilson first baseman Kayla Sullenberger hit an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning to score the first run of the game. The Bison remained in the game down, 2-0, heading into the fifth inning before the Phoenix plated four runs on four hits, including a two-run home run by Sullenberger (3-for-4).
Junior Carmel Smolik (Charlotte, N.C.) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and freshman Kristi Luna (Austin, Texas) added a double. Senior Montana Murphy (Simi Valley, Calif.) took the loss in the circle as she pitched six innings, allowed seven runs (four earnedd) on eight hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.
Wilson pitcher Taylor Crouse (2-2) pitched the complete game where she allowed seven hits and struck out four batters.
