CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Gallaudet University softball team returned to Wilson College on Thursday to complete its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader that was postponed, yesterday, due to darkness. The host Phoenix won, 12-3, in five innings.
The Bison (4-23, 1-9 NEAC) scored the game's first run before the Phoenix (11-6, 9-1 NEAC) answered with five runs in the bottom of the first inning. GU cut the deficit to two, 5-3, with two runs in the third inning. Wilson put the game away with seven runs in the fourth as the game ended in five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.
Junior Carmel Smolik (Charlotte, N.C.) came through with a two-run single in the third inning. Smolik's two singles led the Bison, who had five in the game. Freshman Alyssa Barlow (Chandler, Ariz.) took the loss as she allowed 12 runs on 11 hits, walked six and struck out two.
