PITTSBURGH - Members of the Gallaudet University softball program volunteered time back on May 7 at PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, at the 8th annual Perfect Pitch baseball and softball clinic for deaf and hard of hearing students. The clinic was for dozen of students from the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, grades 7-12.
Gallaudet softball head coach Justen Burns, assistant coach Alicia Johnson were joined by Bison student-athletes; Hailey Henshaw (Newark, Del.), Kelsey Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.), Jenny Mendis (Brook Park, Ohio) and Jessica Monroe (Senoia, Ga.) as the group volunteered their time.
Participants got to do drills for hitting, pitching and fielding on the PNC Park field and bullpen. The group met former Pittsburgh Pirate players including former manager Jim Leyland along with the Pirate Parrot mascot.
