AUSTIN, Texas – Senior shortstop Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) of Gallaudet University was selected to the third team of the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III Softball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), released on Tuesday. This is the second time Neild has earned an Google Cloud Academic All-America® honor this season as she was tabbed as the Division III Women's Basketball Team Member of the Year as she was voted to the first team.

Neild, a 3.98 GPA education major, becomes the first Gallaudet softball player to earn Academic All-America® honors. She is the third Gallaudet student-athlete to receive multiple Academic All-America® honors and only the second female to do so as Neild follows Katie Giles Bean.

The hard of hearing infielder from Gallaudet, the world's only university with programs and services specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students, is the only Google Cloud Academic All-America® from the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).

Twenty-two of the 34 members of the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III softball teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with eight student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.91. Keystone College junior infielder Shannon Lloyd was the recipient of the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for Division III softball.

Neild is one of 34 honorees named to three different teams from around the country in Division III softball where over 400 schools field teams.

To be eligible for Google Cloud Academic honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Gallaudet Associate Athletic Director for Communications Sam Atkinson, a four-year member of CoSIDA's Board of Directors and CoSIDA's Second Vice President, nominated Neild for this honor and has helped Gallaudet athletics increase its Academic All-America totals, nearly sevenfold, in his 10 years at the helm. Gallaudet has earned 13 Academic All-America selections in program history since the inception of the awards in 1952. Eleven of the 13 awards have been earned in the past eight years. GU earned at least one every year for six years straight (2012-17).

The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
