READING, Pa. - The Gallaudet University softball team was shutout here Saturday to Penn St.-Berks, the first-place team in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), by the scores of 11-0 in five innings and 8-0 in six innings.
Gallaudet (10-20, 2-14 NEAC) has now been shutout three straight games while Penn St.-Berks (24-8, 14-0 NEAC) remains perfect in conference play.
Game 1: Penn St.-Berks 11, Gallaudet 0 (F/5)
GU was limited to one hit in the five-inning game as the Nittany Lions scored three times in the first and second innings and five runs in the third inning.
Freshman Kendall Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) singled in the third inning to break-up Penn St.-Berks starting pitcher Jess Rozick's (11-4) no-hit bid. Rozick struck out seven batters and walked three in five innings pitched.
Senior Jacklyn Zacarias (Montebello, Calif.) allowed 11 runs (six earned) on 10 hits, walked two and struck out three times.
Game 2: Penn St.-Berks 8, Gallaudet 0 (F/6)
The Bison recorded their first hits in the fourth inning as Zacarias and sophomore Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) singled as GU finished the game with three hits.
Penn St.-Berks scored runs in every inning but the third.
Hudson (2-4) took the loss as she surrendered eight runs (five earned) on 12 hits and three walks.
Val Miller (10-2) picked up the complete game shutout with five strikeouts.
Gallaudet will conclude its 2019 season on Wednesday, April 24, with a road NEAC doubleheader at Lancaster Bible College (11-19, 5-9 NEAC).
