Fonner enters his fifth season as diving coach with the Gallaudet University men's and women's swimming and diving program.
During Fonner's tenure with the Bison swimming program he has coached the school record holder in women's 1 meter diving in Rebecca Lopez, who set the mark with 289.60 points on Feb. 16, 2014. Fonner was also a coach on the 2013-14 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men's swimming and diving championship team.
In 2013-14, Neal Matthews earned All-NEAC second team honors for 1 meter diving for a second year in a row thanks to Fonner's guidance.
Prior to joining the Gallaudet swimming staff, Coach Fonner attended Stanford University where he starred as a diver for the Cardinal swimming and diving team. In his time there he led the varsity dive team in rankings, dual meet points, and placed top-5 at PAC-10 conference championships. He graduated in 2006 with a degree in Sociology and began working toward his Masters in Sociology with a focus on Transportation Policy, which he earned in 2007 from Stanford.
Coach Fonner currently works as a Program Analyst and Audit Liaison for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) at the United States Department of Transportation. He resides in Rockville, Md.
