Gallaudet's Easter Faafiti repeats as WBCA All-American Honorable Mention honoree

ATLANTA - Gallaudet University senior forward/center Easter Faafiti (Pittsburg, Calif.) was selected for a second year to the NCAA Division III State Farm Coaches All-American team as a honorable mention honoree as announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and State Farm on Friday.

"I am happy that Easter has been recognized by the WBCA as an All-American honorable mention as one of the top 40 players in the nation," said Gallaudet coach Kevin Cook. "What she has done at Gallaudet in the past two seasons has been amazing! She is truly an All-American on and off the court."

The WBCA selection committee selected the 2011 All-American 10-member team, the committee is comprised of one representative from each of the eight geographical regions and a chairperson. In addition, 30 players were selected as honorable mention All-American.

Faafiti last month was named the 2011 NEAC Player fo the Year and was selected to the all-conference first team. During the season Faafiti was selected as the NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week for a record five times. She was also selected to the National Team of the Week three times and three times picked as the ECAC South Region Player of the Week.

Faafiti, a junior-college transfer from Pasadena City College, was first in the NEAC in field goal percentage (.531), steals (3.82 per game), and offensive rebounds (4.96 per game), was second in scoring (20.5 points per game), and rebounding (13.5 per game), and fourth in defensive rebounds (8.54 per game). Nationally, Faafiti was ranked in several categories among all NCAA Division III women's basketball programs including; double-doubles (4th overall), rebounding (11th), steals (12th), scoring (13th) and field goal percentage (29th).
