WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team will go up against University of Maryland at the Comcast Center in College Park, Md., on Tuesday, November 2, in an exhibition game between the NCAA Division III program and the Division I powerhouse.
This will be Gallaudet's first-ever appearance at the Comcast Center. The two programs met in Washington, D.C., at Gallaudet back on March 7, 1972, where the Terrapins won 56-27 over the Bison in an official game.
Gallaudet enters the 2010-11 season coming off its best season in a decade as the Bison advanced to the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The Bison went 14-12 overall, 7-9 in the conference and 10-5 at home in the Field House. The Bison return 75 percent of their roster from last year including all starters.
Maryland posted a 21-13 record last season, the sixth straight 20-win season, an advanced to the WNIT tournament to extend its streak for postseason appearances under Coach Brenda Frese to seven straight seasons. The Terrapins won the national championship in 2006. Maryland returns four starters from last season led by All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) third team honoree Lynetta Kizer and ACC All-Freshman member Diandra Tchatchouang. The Terrapins were recently selected to finish fourth in the ACC.
