GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards and Gallaudet University senior center/forward Easter Faafiti (Pittsburg, Calif.) was named the women's basketball recipient for the week of November 29. This is the first-ever NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week award for the Bison women's basketball program since they joined the conference this past summer. Last year, Faafiti earned four Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Player of the Week awards en route to be named the CAC Player of the Year.
Faafiti, a preseason All-American, led Gallaudet (3-0) to a thrilling 80-69 upset win over nationally ranked Lebanon Valley College last Sunday in the GU Holiday Tournament championship game. Faafiti scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her first double-double this season as the Bison beat No. 17 Lebanon Valley College. She was named the tournament's MVP. During the two-day tournament she scored 38 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, made 13 steals and nine assists. For the season the she is averaging 19.3 points per game, 7.0 rebounds per game, 6.0 steals per game and 4.7 assists per game. She is also shooting 75 percent from the field and 80 percent (16-for-20) from the free-throw line.
Gallaudet now has nine NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week awards for the year.
The Bison women's basketball team will make their NEAC debut on Wednesday, December 1, at home against Wilson College at 6 p.m.
